Tottenhan Hotspur’s great run of form under new boss Harry Redknapp continued as they progressed to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup with a comfortable win over Liverpool.

Three goals in six minutes put the home side in control, taking the commanding league into the break thanks to Pavlyuchenko’s opener and a double from former Manchester United man Fraizer Campbell.

Liverpool responded soon after the break with Damien Plessis firing home on 49 minutes, but Pavlyuchenko restored the three goal lead shortly after. Sami Hypia made a game of it after Spurs goalkeeper Gomes flapped at a cross, but it was Spurs who marched into the final eight.

The shock of the round came at Stamford Bridge, where Championship play off contenders Burnley battled through to win on penalties, the visiting goalkeeper saving from Jon MIkel Obi to crash last years finalists out of the competition.

In the night’s other game, Blackburn chalked up an impressive win at the Stadium of Light, Paul Bardsley’s own goal proving decisive as Sunderland crashed out at home.
