Wenger Admits Pride in Young Squad

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has stated he was proud of his Arsenal youngsters as they destroyed a strong Wigan side in the Carling Cup forth round.

Jay Simpson grabbed a brace to make the home side comfortable before Mexican Carlos Vela added a third with a delightful chip over the faultless Chris Kirkland.

What was even more notable from an England fans perspective was the inclusion of five potential future stars, including a man of the match performance from the outstanding and incredibly mature sixteen year old Jack Wiltshire.

Wenger beamed: “I am very proud of the players and of the quality of the display. Overall the whole team has done very well. That’s the most complete side of youngsters we have had and with many good young English players.

Other teams through to the quarter final stage are managerless Watford, who got instant revenge on Swansea following the weekend’s defeat, Derby County after overcoming Leeds United at Pride Park by two goals to one. Manchester United also booked their place after a Carlos Tevez penalty was enough to dispose of Championship side Q.P.R, and Stoke City cruised past Rotherham United at the Britannia Stadium.
