Another Day of Excitement in the Premiership

November 1st, 2008 by admin

Liverpool threw away the chance of retaining top spot after a last minute Pavlyuchenko strike continued Tottenham’s fine recent form.

Elsewhere, Hull City continued to provide a scare for the Premier League’s big boys as they pushed Manchester United all the way at Old Trafford. An 82nd minute penalty from Geovanni made sure the game went down to the wire, but United eventually overcame the Tigers 4-3.

Stoke City caused a massive upset as they heaped more misery on Arsene Wenger, beating his Arsenal side by two goals to one at the Britannia Stadium. It was a game which also saw the departure of Theo Walcott on a stretcher, and Rory Delap’s throw being the catalyst for Stoke again.

Chelsea took top spot from Liverpool after destroying Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. Nicolas Anelka grabbed a fine hat trick, as Frank Lampard added to his ever increasing tally with a fine back post header.

Other highlights of the day saw Wigan grabbing all three points on the south coast against Portsmouth, Emile Heskey grabbing a last minute winner.
