Holland keep 100% record intact

Saints players charged with Burglary

Lafferty joins Rangers from Burnley

Barcelona trio can leave the club

Italy clinched a quarter-final meeting with Spain when they beat France 2-0, a result which saw France knocked out along with Romania from the so called ‘Group of Death’

Nothing went right for France they lost Franck Ribery in the first ten minutes and then had Eric Abidal sent off after 25 minutes when he fouled Luca Toni to give away a penalty that was scored by Andrea Pirlo.

The World champions scored again when Daniele De Rossi’s 30-yard free-kick was deflected in by Thierry Henry just past the hour mark.

Goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie ended Romania’s hopes of making the Euro 2008 quarter-finals. The Dutch will now play either Russia or Sweden in the last eight.

Southampton’s Bradley Wright-Phillips and Nathan Dyer will appear before Portsmouth magistrates on 8 July, after being charged with burglary in connection with the theft of items from a Portsmouth nightclub.

Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty has joined Rangers. Rangers have paid £3M plus offered midfielder Alan Gow as part of the deal.

New Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says Ronaldinho, Deco and Samuel Eto’o are free to leave the club.

Klasnic makes history and scores winner

Ballack sends co-hosts out

Hull City get Fulham in first game in top level

Bolton sign Muamba from Birmingham

Rangers sign Lithuanian Velicka

Ten Man Paraguay beat Brazil

Injury time goal saves Argentina

Medel strikes gold for Chile

US get eight against Barbados

Mexico unconvincing against Belize

Ivan Klasnic scored the only goal of the game against Poland to send Croatia through to the quarter-final match against Turkey with a perfect 100% record. Klasnic became the first player to take part at a European Championship after a kidney transplant.

In January 2007, the German-born Klasnic suffered kidney failure and, after the striker’s body rejected the kidney donated by his mother he again underwent surgery to replace the rejected kidney with one from his father. In November the 28-year-old returned to football with his club Werder Bremen.

Michael Ballack hit a stunning free-kick to put the German’s into a quarter-final match with Portugal as Germany beat Austria 1-0 tonight. The German’s needed at least a point to qualify from the Group stages, but didn’t have it all their own way despite forward Gomes missing a sitter in the first half, and it took a piece of magic from Ballack to see them go through.

Newly promoted Hull City will play Fulham at home in the first game in the top level of English football, the match is scheduled for 16th August but may change depending on what games are picked up by TV. Manchester United start the defence of their Premier title with a home match with Newcastle United.

Bolton have signed England Under-21 midfielder Fabrice Muamba from Birmingham City in a four-year deal worth over £5m.

Rangers have made their second summer signing after Viking Stavanger striker Andrius Velicka finalised his £1m move. The Lithuania international agreed a three-year deal after undergoing a medical on Monday.

Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz scored one goal and set up a second to inspire 10-man Paraguay to a 2-0 win over Brazil in their World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Argentina substitute Rodrigo Palacio scored in the fourth minute of stoppage-time to salvage a 1-1 home draw with Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Ecuador had been poised to hand Argentina their first home defeat in a qualifier since 1993 after going ahead with a brilliant strike from Patricio Urrutia in the 69th minute.

Defender Gary Medel scored twice, the first a stunning bicycle kick, to give Chile a 2-0 win in Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The United States opened their World Cup qualifying campaign with a record 8-0 victory over Barbados on Sunday.

The eight-goal win is their largest margin of victory ever and equals the record for the most goals scored by the U.S. in a match. The US scored eight goals in a friendly against the Cayman Islands on Nov. 14, 1993, but let in a goal in a 8-1 victory.

Mexico began their World Cup qualifying campaign with an unconvincing 2-0 win over Belize on Sunday.

Belize’s amateurs, facing their neighbours for the first time, held out for over an hour before Carlos Vela and a Jared Borgetti penalty saved Mexico.

Mexico, who will be coached by former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson after the second leg, forced only two saves from Belize goalkeeper Shane Orio in the first half.

Derry winger set for move to West Bromwich

Germany boosted by fitness news ahead of Austria match

In an extraordinary game Turkey came back from two goals down to knock the Czech Republic out of Euro 2008. Jan Koller opened the scoring with his 55th international goal in 90 games and Plasil made it two when the Turks were down to ten players due to an injury.

Turan have the Turks a chance when he made it 2-1 in the 75th before a howler from the normal reliable Petr Cech gave Turkish captain Nihat Kahveci a simple tap-in and with just one minute to go of normal time the captain made it 3-2. There was added drama when Turkey’s goalkeeper Volkan Demirel was sent off in injury time, but the Turks held out to qualify.

In the other game Portugal, who had already qualified, rested nine players and lost 2-0 to co-hosts Switzerland with Hakan Yakin scoring twice in the 71st and 83rd minute, the second from the penalty spot.

Dutch qualify with convincing win

Buffon saves Italians from defeat

Five clubs bid to replace Gretna

Saints set to close parts of ground

Uefa overturn Porto European ban

Ten Cate appointed boss of Panathinaikos

Carling Cup First Draw made

The Netherlands continued their impressive start to the Euro 2008 tournament with a 4-1 win over World Cup finalists France, after beating the Italians 3-0 in the opener the Dutch eased into the quarter-finals.

Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring as the Dutch led 1-0 at half-time, Robin Van Persie added a second before France’s top scorer Thierry Henry bagged his 45 international goal in his 101st appearance, but the comeback chance was shortlived as Arjen Robben made it 3-1 just a minute later. Sneijder rounded off a great evening for the Dutch with a cracking fourth in stoppage time.

Gianluca Buffon saved Adrian Mutu’s penalty to stop the Italian’s being eliminated in the group stages. Mutu’s penalty was down the middle and Buffon did well to save one handed after diving to his left. Mutu had opened the scoring for the Romanian’s only to see Christian Panucci equalise a minute later. The Italians play France next but if Romania beat the Dutch both will go out.

Five clubs have applied to replace Gretna in the Scottish Football League and play in Division Three next season. Annan Athletic, Edinburgh City, Preston Athletic and Spartans who all currently play in the East of Scotland League and Highland League champions Cove Rangers have all applied. There were no formal applications from East of Scotland side Gala Fairydean and former senior outfit Third Lanark, who had also expressed an interest.

Southampton are to close parts of their St Mary’s Stadium next season as part of the club’s cost-cutting measures. Three of the four corners of the stadium will be closed, affecting around 700 season ticket holders.

Uefa’s appeal body has overturned the decision to exclude Porto from next season’s Champions League. The Portuguese side had been excluded from next season’s competition over alleged bribery of referees in the 2003/04 campaign.

Henk Ten Cate has been appointed as the new boss of Panathinaikos a fortnight after his departure from Chelsea.

Seems like the season has just finished but already the draw has been made for the first round of next season’s Carling Cup. Recently relegated Reading will travel to League Two Dagenham & Redbridge, while Derby County host Lincoln and Birmingham travel to Wycombe.
