Bristol City beat Crystal Palace 2-1 after extra-time at Ashton Gate in the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final to progress 4-2 on aggregate. Extra-time goals from Lee Trundle and Michael McIndoe helped City progress to a Wembley final against either Hull City or Watford.
In the Scottish Premier League, Gretna beat 10-man Heart of Midlothian 1-0 at Fir Park thanks to an injury-time goal from Gavin Skelton. Gary Glen saw red for Hearts on 26 minutes.
Giovanni Trapattoni has named his Republic of Ireland squad for the friendlies against Serbia in Dublin on May 24 and Colombia at Craven Cottage on May 27. The squad includes seven uncapped players - Owen Garvan, Wes Hoolahan, Sean Scannell, Kevin Foley, Darren O’Dea, Damien Delaney and Glenn Whelan - while West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Dean Kiely is also included after a five-year absence.
Middlesbrough have decided not to offer new deals to midfielders Fabio Rochemback and Gaizka Mendieta while striker Dong-Gook Lee will also leave.
