Hamilton seal title
Manchester United remain on course to retain the Premier League title after an 88th minute Carlos Tevez strike earned them a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Roque Santa Cruz had given Rovers the lead after 21 minutes but Tevez’s goal keeps United three points clear of Chelsea, with a superior goal difference, ahead of their visit to Stamford Bridge.
Gavin McCann scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark as Bolton Wanderers beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium to move out of the relegation zone. Birmingham City - who travel to Aston Villa tomorrow - replace them in the bottom three.
Arsenal beat Reading 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to record only their second win in nine Premier League matches. Emmanuel Adebayor put the hosts ahead on the half-hour while Gilberto Silva added a second on 38 minutes. The result leaves Reading just one point above the relegation zone with a worse goal difference than the teams around them.
Fulham look destined for the drop after losing 0-2 to Liverpool at Craven Cottage. Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch were on target for the visitors. The Cottagers are now five points adrift of safety with just three games remaining.
Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 at the JJB Stadium while West Ham United beat already-relegated Derby County 2-1 at Upton Park. With just one win this season, Derby face the prospect of becoming the first club in English league football for 109 years with such a low total of victories.
Swansea City are League One champions despite losing 1-2 against Yeovil Town at Liberty Stadium. Second-placed Carlisle United lost 1-2 at home to Southend United to hand Swansea the title.
Milton Keynes Dons secured promotion to League One with a 2-3 win against Stockport County at Edgeley Park and second-placed Peterborough United are also celebrating promotion from League Two after a 0-1 win against Hereford United at Edgar Street.
Celtic top the Scottish Premier League for the first time this year after an unconvincing 1-0 home win over Aberdeen. Georgios Samaras scored the only goal of the game on 56 minutes as Gordon Strachan’s men move two points clear of Rangers at the top of the league though they have played three-games more. Elsewhere, Heart of Midlothian beat St Mirren 3-2 at Tynecastle, Inverness Caledonian Thistle ran-out 3-0 winners against Kilmarnock at Caledonian Stadium and Falkirk and Gretna played out a goalless draw at the Falkirk Stadium.
Hamilton Academicals will be playing Scottish Premier League football next season after a 2-0 win over 10-man Clyde at New Douglas Park helped them seal the First Division championship.
