Aberdeen reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup after beating Copenhagen 4-0 at Pittodrie to qualify in third spot from Group B. All the goals came in the second half. Jamie Smith scored twice (47 & 55) while the Dons also profited from a Mikael Antonsson own goal (71) and a Ricky Foster effort (83).
Everton, who had already secured their passage to the knockout stages as winners of Group A, completed their group games with a 2-3 victory at AZ Alkmaar’s DSB Stadion. Andy Johnson opened the scoring after only 63 seconds before Graziano Pelle equalised for the hosts on 16 minutes. David Moyes’ men were back in front on the stroke of half-time through Phil Jagielka but Kew Jaliens restored parity with a 65th minute header. James Vaughan grabbed the winner eleven minutes from time and ended the Dutch sides 32-match unbeaten home record in European competition.
