Arsenal remain top of the Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium. Kolo Toure and Tomas Rosicky were on the scoresheet for the Gunners. The two Manchester clubs are hot on Arsenal’s heels as second placed United demolished Aston Villa 1-4 at Villa Park and City beat Birmingham City 1-0 at Eastlands. Elsewhere, Liverpool beat nine-man Everton 1-2 in a controversial Merseyside derby, Chelsea and Portsmouth recorded 0-2 away victories at Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic respectively but Reading didn’t enjoy their visit to Ewood Park where they lost 4-2 to an impressive looking Blackburn Rovers side. Fulham and Derby County met at Craven Cottage but failed to muster a goal between them.
North of the Border, Rangers beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox in the first Old Firm game of the season.
Hartlepool United midfielder Michael Maidens has died in a road traffic accident. Although we appreciate a bias in favour of your club, without exception, foul or abusive language will not be tolerated.
