Everton move up to fifth in the Premier League after goals from Joleon Lescott and Steven Pienaar secured a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at Goodison Park.

Michael Owen’s injury saga continues. Yesterday, Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce suggested that the striker be back in action for next weekend’s clash with Everton after a successful hernia operation. However, Owen himself has admitted he is not so optimistic and expects to miss England’s crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers in October.
