In Randy Lerner’s first home match as chairman, Aston Villa are up in to the top four with a 2-0 win against strugglers Charlton Athletic.
Tottenham Hotspur’s early season woes continue. Despite an improved display, they lose 0-3 at Liverpool.

At the bottom, Rotherham United are now only a point adrift of Millwall following a 3-2 win at Leyton Orient. Nigel Spackman’s Lions suffer their seventh defeat in ten league games as Northampton Town win 1-0 at the New Den.
—– Lincoln City’s 3-2 win at Wycombe Wanderers allows Walsall to return to the top of League Two courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.
Swindon Town are held to a 1-1 draw at Notts County.
In the match of the day, Hartlepool United take a four-goal lead at Peterborough United but are pegged back to 4-3 before securing a 5-3 win. Pool had only scored seven goals in their 11 previous 2006-07 games.
Macclesfield Town remain the only Football League club without a win this season. The Silkmen draw 3-3 with Torquay United at Moss Rose.
The 11 League Two games produce 43 goals.
