—– Five times European champions Liverpool start their Champions League campaign with a narrow win against Maccabi Haifa at Anfield.
Goals from Craig Bellamy and Mark Gonzalez - both on debut - spare the Reds’ blushes after the visitors take the lead through Gustavo Boccoli.
With Israel, and the city of Haifa in particular, still under fire from Lebanon, the venue for the second leg of the Third Qualifying Round tie has still to be decided.
