Middlesbrough retain their two-goal advantage from the first leg with a goalless draw at Xanthi. Everton can’t repair the damage from the heavy defeat in Bucharest despite the consolation of a 1-0 win on the night at Goodison. Hibs hopes of progressing beyond the First Round for the first time since 1989 are destroyed with a 5-1 thumping at Dnipro in Ukraine.

- Roy Keane reveals that he is likely to leave Manchester United at the end of the season. He tells MUTV that he doesn’t expect to be offered a new contract. The United skipper wants to continue his playing career but insists he will not play for another English club.

- The Football Association announce that they will bid to host the 2007 UEFA Under-21 Championship. The FA face competition from the Czech Republic, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey. A decision is expected from UEFA’s executive committee on 15 December.
