He will mainly work with the Saints’ younger players, and stressed ‘there has been a lot said in the press implying I would be taking over the first team but that is not my role’. After the loss of key players during the summer, Redknapp has expressed his concerns regarding new signings while chairman Rupert Lowe believes the appointment of Woodward enables the Saints to improve at a time when finances are tight to increase the senior squad.
