1951 Wins league championship under Arthur Rowe
1951 Capped for England against Portugal at Goodison Park. Scores with first touch after 19 secs but never plays for England again (19 May)
1954 Retires and joins Tottenham’s coaching staff
1955 Appointed first-team coach
1958 Appointed manager following the departure of Jimmy Anderson. Beats Everton 10-4 in first game (11 October)
1961 Spurs win the Double; score 115 goals in 42 games
1962 Retains FA Cup. Beaten in semi-finals of European Cup by Benfica
1963 Wins Cup Winners’ Cup beating Atletico Madrid 5-1 in the final to become the first British club to win a European trophy
1967 Wins third FA Cup with defeat of Chelsea
1971 Wins League Cup beating Aston Villa in the final
1972 Wins UEFA Cup with victory over over Wolves
1973 Wins League Cup
1974 Resigns as Tottenham manager (29 August)
1975 Joins West Ham United as a consultant under John Lyall (August)
1976 Invited back to Spurs by Keith Burkinshaw to work as an advisor and chief scout (July)
1991 Retires and is named as club president
